Nike Trainers

American brand Nike can rightly hold claim to being both the largest and most successful sports brand in the world, holding off competition from other brands such as Adidas and Reebok. The story of Nike starts back in the Mid Nineteen Sixties when it was founded in its original name Blue Ribbon Sports. The company started its life as a distributor and retailer of footwear and in particular trainers and spikes for athletics. Philip Knight and Bill Bowerman were the brains behind the operation and they travelled the length and breadth of the USA to Athletics meetings selling Onitsuka Tiger which are today better known as Asics.

It wasn’t until the late 1970’s that Blue Riband became Nike and the company started to design and manufacture their own footwear with every pair featuring the company’s Swoosh logo. Aggressive in their marketing from day one, they targeted leading sportsmen and women to wear Nike Trainers whilst taking part in their respective sports. Perhaps the greatest success with this tactic was with basketball superstar Michael Jordan and the range of Nike Air Jordan sneakers which sold in huge numbers.

Nike Air Max are the most well-known model within the Nike Sneakers collection with the distinctive air bubble in the heel of the trainer giving runners greater comfort and cushioning in particular when road running. Nike Air Max 1 and Nike Air Max 90 are two of the most popular models within this series.

In recent years the company has started to re-release classic items from the Nike Footwear archive as the clamour for vintage fashion grows. These include Nike Cortez, Nike Dunk and Nike Blazer styles all of which are available online from My Trainers both online and in store.
