The German based sportswear giant Adidas has successfully expanded and evolved its production and output over the years in order for it to position itself in successfully in all sectors of the sportswear market. Founded by Adolf Dassler after the Second World War, the company has changed hands several times of the following decades, yet despite this has retained its position as the second largest sportswear company on the globe after Nike. For many the key part of their range is Adidas Trainers or Adidas Sneakers as they are known in the USA, which are available in many styles in order to be tuned to the many different sports and athletes the company targets. In order to be successful within the fashion sector the company set up a new range labelled Adidas Originals. Using classic designs from the company’s rich archive and coupled with an innovative and adventurous marketing campaign it quickly developed an underground following particularly in the North West of England. This was most notable with their range of Adidas Originals Trainers which became very popular on the terraces with football casuals, who liked the simple styling, comfort and large range of colour ways that were available. This market still very much exists today with people queuing overnight to get hold of limited edition styles from their City series of footwear. Within our collection we have carefully selected some of the most iconic pieces that the company produces. These include Adidas Samba which have sold in the multi-millions over the last sixty years and were originally created for indoor and 5-a-side football. Adidas Stan Smith which is the company’s highest selling footwear style having been first released in the 1960’s as a specialist shoe for the game of tennis and are one of the very few styles not to feature the distinctive three stripes. Adidas Gazelle have a clean and simple design with a large all round sole, leather or suede uppers and often feature contrasting coloured stripes, again a style that has been around for several decades. Adidas Superstar were created specifically for the game of basketball in the 1970’s and are still highly popular both on and off the court, and celebrated their 35th anniversary in the past few years. Adidas Rise is a mid top style of footwear and features both lacing and a Velcro fastener, originally for the sport of basketball they have become a firm fashion success in recent years. Adidas Nizza are available in both lo and hi top styles and a more discreet style of footwear sharing DNA with brands like Converse. |
